In
December 2010 The H.A.C.K. Horse Sanctuary was awarded a Youth Service
Strategy Grant from AVOW in connection with Wrexham County Borough
Council and the Welsh Assembly, and was presented with such at the
Glyndwr University for the building of an education unit at the stable
yard itself at Mill Lane, Bradley LL11 4DD.
This is now completed. Here are the pictures of the unit
being constructed:
HACK is delighted to announce the opening of it's brand new £10,000 Education Centre. It is named "The Buster Super Star Education Centre" after one of our favourite late residents, our mascot Buster Superstar. Volunteer Jane Lloyd says that by educating children to take care of horses properly it will help to eradicate cruelty in the area. The main problem that we come across is education. People aren't necessarily cruel, they just don't know what they are doing, so the education Centre will help to address that. The Centre has facilities where young people can access information and advice on how to manage and look after and care for their horses, ponies and donkeys. Students from Yale College, the Northop campus of Deeside college as well as schools and children's groups attend the sanctuary to learn about equine welfare. The Education Centre will make it much easier than having to stand in the field and talk to the groups, it's somewhere nice and dry to conduct our advice sessions. The Centre which was officially opened by equine expert Professor Derek Knottenbelt OBE, has been funded by a Welsh Assembly grant of £9,700. Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths, and MP Ian Lucas, also attended the grand opening ceremony. Ms Griffiths said "educating and informing owners is the first step to the prevention of animal neglect and cruelty and this is exactly what the education unit will do". Mr Lucas added "the work that H.A.C.K. does really does make a difference to the lives of horses in the local area. It is good news for Wrexham that sanctuaries like H.A.C.K, with their keen understanding of animal welfare issues are here to help". Also helping to educate children, we are running our birthday parties - a fun way to help children to learn to care for equines. Our Saturday club is fully functional - click here to find out more.
