A New Home for Arnie.        By Pamela Bluck

You may remember that quite some time ago we took into our care at the request of an animal hospital a large grey cob who was suffering grass sickness. He needed dedicated 24/7 care, and was signed over to us.  Grass sickness sufferers rarely survive but we wanted to give Arnie that chance.  So I took on his care myself.

It was a lot of hard work, but Arnie did survive and became a wonderful horse, we eventually brought him back into work and the search began for a new home.

Arnie’s new home came our way by accident......Cass had been having trouble with her warm blood horse that she had paid thousands of pounds for, he kept chucking her off and as she was a competitor in dressage it was not boding well.  “Come and have a ride on Arnie” I said to her, and she did. I was sitting watching her in the ménage with a cup of tea and after about 5mins I said to Janie “those two were made for each other.”  Arnie excelled and Cass was pushing the right buttons.

A few days later Cass took Arnie out on the road and across the park, she came back with a large grin on her face “he’s fab” she said “and I don’t like cobs.”  The love affair continued and after a few weeks I told Cass that she should have Arnie on loan.

Arnie has the one to one he so deserves, a lovely large stable, his own paddock adjacent to Cass’ other horse. He has had his saddle fitted by an expert, has weekly lessons with jumping and dressage.  He gets hacked out regularly and has really landed himself a 5* home.  I am so happy for him; it is just what I wanted.  And if you ask Cass “how’s Arnie” she will say “ “he’s Fab”

Several months later Arnie is now in full work and competing at a higher level  and in his latest dressage test he scored 77%. He loves jumping and cross country.

We have had many offers of mega bucks  from people who would like to own Arnie, but he is staying  exactly where he is with Cass.
